It looks like a nut cracking bowl, but not a Parsons like people are saying. All the Parsons brand bowls were a dense wood with a cast bronze (or similar alloy) anvil in the center. I'd like to ask OP if it's cast iron or aluminum. That could help the search out for which brand it is.
